Captain 2023/24

Hello fellow members,

As the year begins to draw to a close, I finally have the chance to reflect on what has been a very busy and profoundly enjoyable few months. Whilst we have not had the best of summers, we have been fortunate in that there were not too many cancellations and much to my surprise, there was hardly a drop of rain during my Captains weekend!
Whilst I have had a number of highlights over the past few months, there have been 3 that have stood out in particular.

Firstly, I hosted a charity sportsman's lunch in in aid of Claire House Childrens Hospice where the guest speaker was the 2 time major winner, John Daly. It was an absolutely fabulous afternoon and John was a perfect gentleman mixing and engaging with everybody who attended.

Secondly, I was honoured to present the re-arranged Norman Littler trophy to this years winner, Jim Jones. The reason this was a highlight is that, if it hadn't have been for Norman's guidance to me as a junior member, I may not have been at the golf club today. Therefore to present the trophy that is in his name, as Captain of Helsby Golf Club, gave me a great deal of pride.

Finally, I attended the Powered Wheelchair Appeal (PWA) Ruby Ball at Chester racecourse in September where we presented another 5 chairs to local youngsters. These young people depend on the use of their powered wheelchairs to maintain their independence and allow them to live as normal a life as possible. Over 150 people attended the event and over £13,500 was raised on the evening which is testament not only to the generosity of the club, but also the tireless work the volunteers put in to make events like this happen.

Finally, I would like to thank all of the staff and volunteers who continue to make the club what it is today, a friendly, sociable, enjoyable place to visit.

I hope you enjoy the remainder of the golfing year and I look forward to seeing you all at various club functions over the coming weeks leading up to Christmas.

Captain, Christian Lindley
